Know the Father’s Agenda – Jesus’ Secret

This Week’s Audio Message

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.  Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” – Mark 1:35-37

We will continue to press forward from Sister Geni Guo’s sharing last week on prayer and connecting with the Father’s heart by looking at Jesus’ example.

Market Place Prayer

May the Holy Spirit teach His market place leaders the way of Christ – to know the heart of the Father through prayer.

Know the Father’s Agenda – One Thing I Seek

This week’s sharing is prepared by Sister Geni Guo.  You may have heard her translate during our weekly meetings.  We hope that her sharing will help stir in you a greater intercessory flow.

“…But only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:42

Revolving around this year’s theme, “The Joy Set Before Christ”, we have shared many in-depth insights that the Holy Spirit has granted us, including “The Picture of the Bride and the Wife”, “Christ’s Kingdom Model is in the Family”, and “The Principle of Sacrifice and Father’s Capacity”. How can we turn these rich messages inspired by the Lord into our “bones” and “flesh”—making them part of our life and how can we live them out? This week, we will share about “Only One thing” (Lk 10:42), a fundamental practice to make these possible.

This “Only One Thing” speaks of sitting at the Lord’s feet listening to what He says(Lk 10:39). Why does Jesus tell us that this is the only thing that is needed? In the example shared last week, from John 5:19, we saw that the Lord only does what the Father is doing.  How do we follow His steps to understand God’ heart, intent, and priorities? It is through spending time with Him and living in His presence 24/7.

We highly recommend that all the 10500 soldiers would practice this One Thing daily. Since our days are typically filled with packed schedules and many responsibilities, it would be better to start by spending some time with the Lord. While this may not be a new idea to most of us, you probably have found out that it is actually quite difficult to do it on a consistent basis. There are many reasons why the practice of this spiritual discipline is necessary. For this week though, we would like to focus on three of them.

  1. To satisfy God’s longing for us to spend time with Him, to cultivate our relationship with our Bridegroom (Ge 3:8-9; 2:23; Ps 27:4);
  2. To experience restorations in our own lives and to fulfill our call as a restorer of families, fellowships, companies, and economies. Be restored to the likeness of God: characters & capabilities. (Ge 1:26; 2 Co 3:18; Ps 27:4; Mal 4:5-6; Mk 9:12a);
  3. To put on the full armor of God and receive strategies for Spiritual warfare (Eph 6: 10-18).

Market Place Prayer

We pray that all the 10,500 soldiers will set aside some time for daily encounter with God. Like  King David, they will serve God’s purpose in this generation through seeking God and doing God’s will in all that they do, and they will eventually receive the highest reward from the Lord, to be called someone after God’s own heart. (Acts 13:22, 36)

Sacrifice in the Father’s Capacity

By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice.  He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”  Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. – Hebrews 11:17-19

Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.“ – John 5:19-21

As we spoke about the principles of sacrifice last week, we saw how God uses sacrificial tests as paths to elevate us.  These principles from Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac represent an important baseline because his example is one of the most severe tests of obedience recorded in scripture.

We often miss the full measure of God’s promotion because of our nature to avoid or resist “sacrifice”.  We often fight against sacrifice because we tend to feel inadequate in our capacity or we fail to see the benefits in such surrendering.  But as we look back to an early February message on the “Father’s capacity” and connect that idea to “sacrifice”, we begin to see a powerful chemistry, a working of the Spirit’s power that can greatly expand our influence and witness to and through our families, fellowships, companies, and economies.

In John 5, Christ has sets for us the ultimate example of tapping into the “Father’s capacity”.  His example shows us that feeling inadequate is a good start, for “the Son can do nothing by Himself”.  Jesus further exhorts us that in order to enter into the “Father’s capacity”, we must see “what the Father is doing”, to follow His agenda by understanding His heart, intent, and priorities – which often times run against our agenda.  Unlike most people, Abraham embraced his sacrificial call with the “Father’s capacity” as he “reasoned that God could raise the dead”.  When Abraham understood that God’s priority to build a great nation starts first with a “good seed” of obedience, he entered into the “Father’s capacity”.  This capacity allowed Abraham to overcome the contradiction of God’s sacrificial request, knowing that when he fulfills God’s priority for a “good seed”, God will then raise the dead to fulfill His promise.  We, too, can enter into that realm of sacrificial blessings by following the Father and coming under His capacity.

Market Place Prayer

May the Lord open the eyes of the 10,500 soldiers to His Agenda and His capacity, to understand the Father’s heart, intent, and priorities.  May the Lord sustain these market place leaders as many are undergoing tests of sacrifice to expand their capacities, to elevate their influence and witness to and through their families, fellowships, companies, and economies.

Principles of Sacrifice – Abraham’s Example

Some time later God tested Abraham. – Genesis 22:1

The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” – Genesis 22:15-18

Last week, we saw from Scriptures the key that can brings restoration and fruitfulness to our families, companies, and entire economies.  This key, exemplified to us in the love of a husband for his wife, demonstrates a spiritual principle of releasing God’s power through sacrifice.  This week, we press further into this principle by looking at Abraham’s famous account of sacrificing Isaac.  This well known story of love and faith reveals a few key insights on how God sees sacrificial expression:

  1. For those that God wants to bless, He will lead us to partake in sacrifice so that this spiritual law of blessing will be activated in us.  When God calls us to sacrifice, it is not for vain suffering.  It is actually the path to greater restoration and fruitfulness.  It is important for us to recognize this working of the Lord so we do not end up fighting it.
  2. Sacrifice is the outward manifestation of our faith.  Giving in sacrifice is irreversible, often painful, and carries no expectation of reciprocation.  We are called to let go of our own agenda – our strivings for control, emotional fulfillment, reputation, security and predictability.  We must step aside and let God be God.
  3. The Lord is mainly concerned with our heart.  He considers the intent to sacrifice to be equivalent as the action.

Market Place Prayer

May the Lord show mercy to the 10,500 market place leaders as He had for Abraham.  Teach us and lead us into the place of sacrifice so we can become witnesses of restoration and fruitfulness in the places you have called us to – our families, fellowships, companies, entire economic systems, and to the end of the earth.
